( I forgot to mention that my pleasant early dawn Safeway travel ended with me driving halfway home before realizing that I didn ’ deoxythymidine monophosphate have my call. I drove all the way back and found it in the haul right where I left it. Doh ! possibly it was a small TOO early in the good morning. )
But binding to the Banh Mi ’ mho. Have you heard of them ? Have you had one ? The meter is immediately ! just look at this !

How to make a Banh Mi sandwich

Start with a soft ( not crunchy ! ) miniskirt baguet. Hero/hoagie rolls will work but it ’ mho even better if you can find Bolilo rolls. They are mexican rolls used to make tortas, and I found them in the bakery section at Safeway. Whatever roll you use, make indisputable it ’ s not so crunchy that it will scrape the roof of your mouth, who wants that ?

then you slather both sides of the bankroll with ample amounts of Sriracha mayonnaise ( ample I say ! ) and circus tent with super thin-cut pork that is perfectly seared and oh-so-tender. then come the veggies : pile it high gear with cucumbers, jalapeños, quick-pickled radish and carrot, and mile high coriander .

In my opinion, Banh Mi sandwiches are just an excuse to eat fistfuls of coriander. Could there be anything better ? ? I know all the coriander haters out there are gagging right now. But wait come baaack ! You can replace the coriander with another herb if you want ! I think it would be adept with basil ( ooh ! Thai basil if you can find it ! ) or tied mint. Or possibly dill ? ?

Another key component to a perfect banh nautical mile sandwich is the pickle radish and carrots. Daikon is a kind of radish commonly used in asian cuisine, and if you can ’ metric ton find any, equitable swap them out for radishes ( radishes are stronger so possibly don ’ deoxythymidine monophosphate use as much ). The pickle process only takes about an hour. They survive for months in the electric refrigerator, sol if you have any leftover ( I constantly make extra ! ) then you will have a ready to go sandwich topping in your electric refrigerator ! Or burger topping ! Or pulled pork barrel top ! I ’ thousand telling you it ’ s so dependable !

There should be a 2:1 ratio of veggies to meat on a traditional Banh Mi sandwich, but if you cheat and add more pork I won ’ thyroxine tell anyone. Besides the coriander and pickles, the thinly sliced and marinated pork barrel is what MAKES this sandwich. It is so tender and flavorful .

To achieve this, you have to start out with a great pork combat zone. I ’ thousand super pumped to be writing this post in partnership with Safeway to tell you all about their outdoors Nature brand ! A few weeks ago they brought me to the Safeway Culinary Kitchens and Technical Center in the alcove area for a day of food and fun. We got to learn all about Open Nature products, which you can only buy in their stores. I ’ m in love ! ! Their pork barrel is vegetarian feed and never treated with antibiotics. It is truly the highest choice. They have hundreds of products under the open Nature trade name ( think yogurt, pass soap, ice cream, salad dress, family cleaners, etc. ), but I particularly love their kernel products. They taste amazing !

I asked the bungler behind the antagonistic at Safeway if she would slice the overt Nature pork tenderloin for me. SOOO much easier than doing it at home. Grab a pork barrel combat zone from the ledge and ask the butcher to do the hard knead for you ! It will be unvoiced to get it this thin at home. On the right are all the ingredients you need for the marinade. I equitable tossed it all in the blender because I ’ molarity lazy !

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds open Nature Pork Tenderloin
  • 1 shallot
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon beloved
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon strategic arms limitation talks
  • 1 teaspoon capsicum
  • 4 medium carrots
  • 1 bombastic radish, or 2 small
  • 1 & 1/2 tablespoons carbohydrate, to release water system
  • 1 & 1/2 tablespoons strategic arms limitation talks, to release water
  • 1/2 cup carbohydrate
  • 1 cup urine, warm
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • anoint, for searing pork
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha sauce
  • 6-8 bolilo rolls, miniskirt balmy baguettes, or hero rolls
  • 1 to 2 english cucumbers, sliced into rounds
  • 2 jalapenos, optional, sliced into rounds
  • 2 bunches cilantro

Instructions

  • Begin by slicing the pork barrel tenderloin identical thin. Or better yet, ask your butcher to do this for you ! They can do it in about 2 minutes and it will save you tons of clock time. And they will get it a lot thinner than you can get it at home .
  • In a blender or food processor, add the shallot, garlic, boodle, beloved, fish sauce, sesame oil, salt and capsicum. Pulse until combined. It ‘s o if there are chunks of onion or garlic. You can besides just chop the shallot and garlic by hand and mix it all together in a bowl, I ‘m just faineant .
  • Add the marinade and thinly sliced pork to a metier bowl, binding, and refrigerate for at least an hour, or up to 24 hours .
  • Make the pick veggies : Chop the carrots and radish into matchsticks. See photos. You want them to be about the length of a matchstick and the thickness of your average chop stick. It does n’t have to be perfect ! Do n’t stress about it. Just chop them up thin-ish and your sandwich is going to taste perplex .
  • Add the chopped veggies to a large bowl and sprinkle with 1 and 1/2 tablespoons salt and 1 and 1/2 tablespoons carbohydrate. Use your hands to massage the sugar and salt into the veggies. We ‘re doing this to get the carrots and radish to release urine, so that they will be flexible but distillery crunchy. After 15 minutes of sitting in the salt and carbohydrate, you should be able to bend a carrot without it snapping ( see photograph ) .
  • Pour the veggies into a colander and rinse them under water until all the salt and carbohydrate is washed off .
  • gargle out the bowl and make the seawater : compound 1/2 sugar and 1 cup warm water, and stimulate to dissolve. Add the vinegar and a few shakes of salt. Stir it all together.
  • Add the wash carrots and radish to the vinegar mix, make sure all the veggies are covered, and stick it in the electric refrigerator for 45 minutes. ( They will keep for months in the electric refrigerator ! )
  • When the pork barrel has marinated, heat a boastfully frying pan over medium gamey heat. Add about a tablespoon of oil to the pan. Make sure it is shimmering .
  • Add the pork strips in batches. If you add it all at once, it will not brown. Make indisputable there is about an inch of outer space in between each slice of pork barrel .
  • Sear the pork for about 1-2 minutes, then flip and sear for another hour or so. If you sliced the pork barrel yourself, you will probably have to cook it longer because it will be thick. Adjust the heat as necessity, you want to keep it american samoa gamey as possible without the pan scorching .
  • Continue searing until all the pork barrel is cooked. Add more oil as necessary. Set aside on a plate, or put it in the oven on a pan on the “ keep ardent ” sic ( 170 degrees F ) .
  • In a small bowl, combine 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 tablespoon Sriracha ( more or less Sriracha to taste ) .
  • To assemble : Slice a wind in half lengthways. Spread both sides with Sriracha mayonnaise .
  • top one side with pork, sliced cucumber, sliced jalapeno, lots of pickled carrots and radish, and fistfuls of coriander ( you can chop it if you want, I merely tore it from the top of the crowd. )
  • top with the other half of the seethe and feed ! serve with more Sriracha mayonnaise if you want .
