Syracuse, N.Y. — The hot beef ice-cream sundae is among the best deals at the Fair. For $ 6, you walk away with a meaty entree that resembles a dessert. The whole thing weighs 9 ounces. Wahid Akl debuted the hot gripe ice-cream sundae at his rock It Up stand in 2008. It was the “ must-try ” food of the state bonny that class and created lines that stretched across the Dairy Products Building. It ’ s a simple dish to create : a layer of squash potatoes, beef ( a pot roast, top round, chuck roast or brisket ), shredded cheddar tall mallow, a dollop of sour cream and a cherry tomato on top. What makes this Fair food so good, Akl says, are the ingredients. “ We don ’ metric ton buy trash, ” Akl said. “ I buy stuff that I would eat myself, food that I ’ d serve my kids. ” He buys flower gripe and seasons it himself before roasting it. He buys whole Idaho potatoes, not clamant mashed potato flakes. “ Sure, you can make this at home, but we ’ ve been doing it class after year, ” Akl said. “ We do it right. ” Challenge accepted, Wahid. Layer 1: I mashed chicken cream pitcher potatoes ( $ 6.99 ) with a few tablespoons of butter and a cup of milk. Layer 2: I used a small top-round knock ( $ 15.66 ) and seasoned it with kosher salt, coarsely land pepper, granulated onion, crushed garlic and paprika. While the ice-cream sundae I had end August was cooked to medium, I stopped mine at medium rare. It roasted for about 45 minutes and sat covered for an extra 15 .
